Once Again to See the Stars

Artist Michelle Gagliano and writer Stuart Gunter collaborate on a contemporary interpretation of Dante’s “Inferno” in their book “Once Again to See the Stars.” Canto by canto, Michelle Gagliano and Stuart Gunter engage Dante’s “Inferno” in a contemporary, intellectual, and playful narrative. Gagliano is the first documented female artist to translate Dante’s ancient writing to panel. She utilizes collage and mixed media, specifically clippings from 1940s-1970s “Life” magazines, to give a modern and inquisitive portrayal of the dark and satiric poetry.

The collaboration continued with graphic designer Kristin Adolfson of Still Point Design Studio, who brought Gagliano’s work and Gunter’s text together in book form.
